Currently Reading: A Little Opulent

Hey Everyone,

I'm sure you've all heard that Rebecca and Jen have recently started up the online magazine, A Little Opulent, and wow. I've become like a little kid waiting for Santa, constantly looking for new posts.

The magazine features a variety of writers from all sorts of professions and interests, keeping the website fresh and great for all kinds of people. The writers are all unique, each with a definite voice of their own. (is it bad that I can pick them out just by their writing? Whoops)

All I want to know is where I can sign up to write too?

Fab Friday: 10 Questions with Lissa Dorn

Hey Guys,

Last weekend I had the opportunity to talk to and interview the lovely Lissa Dorn, the owner of Soymilkblog about her blog and her personal style. She was incredibly sweet and easy to talk to and was incredibly willing to participate. So without any further ado, on to the interview

1. What made you want to start your blog?

I started blogging as a hobby about six years ago - I mostly posted outfit photos and mood boards that inspired me. When I started Soymilkblog, I was pregnant with my son and wanted a way to document the new phase of my life. I wanted to focus on motherhood as a main topic, and relate fashion and beauty back to the adventure of being a mom.

2. What’s the meaning behind your blog name?
I picked the name for Soymilkblog for a couple of reasons. I like the connection between milk and motherhood as a concept. I also am constantly inspired by my husband, who lives a vegan life and has made me understand my global impact. The name Soymilkblog encompasses all of that, and, most importantly, it has edge and is memorable.

3. What advice do you have for new bloggers?
My best advice is to be yourself. Take inspiration from others, but always apply your own voice and perspective.

4. How would you describe your style?
My style is a conglomerate of everything that I like. I tend to gravitate towards minimalist designs and classic pieces, but I’m heavily inspired by edgy or vintage aesthetics. I appreciate well-made clothing, so I focus on quality first in regards to my style.

5. What are 3 essentials in your wardrobe?
  1. Denim - From jeans to cutoffs, I’m obsessed with denim. It’s so easy to wear, so it’s definitely number one on my list of essentials.
  2. T-shirts - Another easy piece, of course, because I never want to overthink when I get dressed in the morning.
  3. Button-downs - I love a basic white or blue button-down, especially when paired with anything denim. It’s classic dressed down a notch, very practical yet chic.

6. Thrifting or buying new?
Thrifting will always have a special place in my heart. It’s such a great experience and the best way to shop on a budget.

7. Do you follow trends? If so, what have been your favorites?
I follow some trends, if only by accident, and my all-time favorite is the black ankle boot’s comeback. It’s an effortless choice for me - easy-to-wear is obviously my thing.

8. Who are your fashion inspirations?
I think that Kate Moss is one of the greatest fashion icons of our generation. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have always been inspirations for my style - I love the way dress thoughtfully but not overdone. Blogger-wise, I think that Sabrina Meijer of AfterDRK always gets it right.

9. How has your style changed since you’ve started blogging?
My style has gone from very vintage inspired and complex to much more minimal. This has partly been due to motherhood. I tend to focus more on quality in the pieces I wear, opting for designer pieces that are well-structured and classic.

10. What’s your best fashion advice?
Always wear sexy underwear beneath your clothes - confidence is better than any cute top or the perfect-fitting pair of jeans.

If you guys have anyone you'd like to see in this series or would like to be included yourself, feel free to email me. Thanks again to Lissa for helping me out with this and be sure to check out her blog if you haven't yet!

Off the Bookshelf: The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

Madness

Hey Everybody,

I recently finished The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hopkin, and wow I loved it.

The story follows seventeen year old Mara Dyer who suffers from PTSD after a traumatic accident in which her best friend, boyfriend, and her boyfriend's sister.

The story keeps you on the edge of your seat as you dive in deeper into the depths of each of the characters and is great for anyone who enjoys romance and the paranormal, though I must stress that there's nothing scary about it. Throw in a cute british boy, and I'm game.

Let me know if you've read this and what you thought

xoxo Kendall
