First Impressions: Ulta Summer Glam Kit

Hey Guys,

I recently picked up the Ulta Summer Glam Beauty Essentials Kit. (To purchase, click on the Photo) This was $28 and supposedly has a value of $89. The kit revolves around summer-proof products in great summertime colors and allows for the average girl to sample out some high end products.

For each product I'll include the amount given in the sample, a price and link to the Ulta site to buy the full size if you're at all interested, and a small description of my thoughts thus far. So let's begin.

Anastasia Lash Genius (0.11 oz.) Full - $21
First off, I think this is a genius idea. A clear, waterproof topcoat for any mascara? Brilliant! This product goes on beautifully, and yes, is in fact waterproof. However, as time goes on, I found that it got a bit whitish, sort of like globbed up clear nail polish. If anyone has any tips, please let me know.

Benefit The Porefessional (0.1 fl. oz.) Full - $31
First off, this sample is absolutely TINY! However, the little bit that I was able to use was amazing. It made the skin incredibly smooth and filled in the pores as well as making everything last. Definitely worth the price.

Butter London Nail Lacquer in Snog (0.2 oz.) Full - $15
Honestly, I didn't find this all that much better than any other nail polish that I've tried. The color is a beautiful watermelon shade, but I'd probably skip out next time.

Laura Geller Cool Lids Cream Eye Shadow in Rose Gold Goddess (0.26 fl. oz.) Full - $19
First off, I feel that this shade is barely rose gold. It is more of a metallic mauve, but that's alright I suppose. (I also can't find this shade anywhere. Sorry!) It's very pigmented and long lasted, but is not waterproof. However, I still wear this on a daily basis and it will be great all year.

  • Stila Lip Glaze in Strawberry Lemonade (0.05 fl. oz.) Full - $8
  • This lipgloss comes in a light bubble gum shade. Personally, I find the formula to be a bit to thick and sticky, those some may like that for the lasting power. All up to you.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Splashes Waterproof Mascara (0.16 fl. oz.) Full - $20
*cue angelic singing* I have found the mascara love of my life. It's fantastic. Super black, waterproof, defining and lengthening. Love

  • Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer (0.14 oz.) Full - $30
  • Yet another product I'm obsessed with. The shade is perfect, the finish is buttery soft and natural. I think this is the best bronzer I've ever tried.

I hope this post showed some of my opinions on some of the products I recently tried out.

Fab Friday: Interview with Jade Corrie

    Hi Guys,

First off, I apologize for my lack of photo with today's post, but I just didn't have a good one to match with the topic. But that's okay, right? This post has been a good few weeks in the making as time differences and schedules tend to make things difficult, but nonetheless, today I bring an interview!

I had the opportunity to interview the lovely Jade, the writer of Paper Thin and a co-writer of A Little Opulent. Jade is an incredible fashion writer and her blog is a staple on my blogroll. I'm incredibly grateful that she was willing to contribute to my humble little blog, and I hope you all enjoy!

    1. What made you want to start your blog?

I started blogging as my boyfriend told me to give it a go, I was pretty unsure about the whole thing but I do genuinely love fashion, and I am a firm believer you should do what you love in life - so here I am blogging! As time has past it has also been great in helping me keep on top of trends for my other writing work.
    2. What’s the meaning behind your blog name?

It doesn't have a hidden meaning as such but I suppose it is a play on words relating to the tradition glossy magazines.
    3. What advice do you have for new bloggers?

Write for yourself, if you put content out there that you would want to read then chances are there are others out there who will want to read it too. I think to have a blog that has any success you have to make it personal and it has to reflect you, I try and ensure that everything I put out there works with my blog's aesthetic if not it just wouldn't feel authentic.
    4. How would you describe your style?

My style varies - although I am a massive lover of denim! I try and work with a basic neutral palette, adding splashes of colour and great accessories - and I stick to the Coco Chanel rule of once you've dressed, and before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one things off, it never fails. Ever.
    5. What are 3 essentials in your wardrobe?

Denim (of course!), great flats (I am a London girl and that means public transport) and a great basic white t-shirt!
    6. Thrifting or buying new?

Whilst I love a good thrift store, I would have to say buying new - there is something about the gift wrapped item you can't wait to get home!
    7. Do you follow trends? If so, what have been your favorites?

I tend not to, as I mentioned earlier I try and stick to a neutral palette that I then add to. I have learnt what looks good on me and therefore I probably sample trends rather than full on wear them head to toe. For instance I have an amazing pair of wide leg, bright pink trousers by Joseph that I just love - I wear them with a basic black jumper and black accessories and never fail to get compliments - yet I have owned them for 8 years or more. They are just a classic cut and that will always stand the test of time above any trend.
    8. Who are your fashion inspirations?

Olivia Palermo - that girl can accessorise! Diane Kruger, she always looks so effortless and Laura Bailey because she is just British cool.
    9. How has your style changed since you’ve started blogging?

I am probably more aware of my style, and I find pulling together outfits much easier - maybe I have gotten a little more adventurous because I know about so many more labels which gives me so much more choice.
    10. What’s your best fashion advice?

Never worry about the size, worry about the fit - I often take in a size either side of my actual size because it is the fit I am looking for not the size on the label.

Fab Friday Trend Disection: Matching Tops and Bottoms

    Hey Guys,

As you're reading this, I'm on my last full week of school! (Two and a half days next week) So I wanted to talk about one of the hottest summer trends; the matching crop top and skirt look.

This is a trend that I've seen everywhere from the high street, to the red carpet, to the runway.

Now I'm going to be honest and say that I'm not a fan. I personally prefer to pair something bold and patterned with a separate in a complimentary solid color. I find that this trend is a bit busy and can take the sophistication away from the clothing items.

But hey, if you're loving this look, that's fantastic!

Let me know what your opinion is, and as always, let me know what else you'd like to see!

    xoxo, Kendall

    To Read - June

    Hey Guys!
(first up, I apologize that this wasn't up yesterday)

So school is almost over, (a week from today!!!) which frees up a lot of my time to do as I please.

Ah yes, summer reading. Something I think we all take for granted, but absolutely love doing.

So for this month, I've pulled two books off the shelf. (Let me know if you'd like to see a review after I finish them)  I'm going to pull the summaries from the internet to get the most accurate sum up for you all. So without any further ado, lets begin.

    Paper Towns by John Green

Quentin Jacobsen has spent a lifetime loving the magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar. So when she cracks open a window and climbs back into his life–dressed like a ninja and summoning him for an ingenious campaign of revenge–he follows.
After their all-nighter ends and a new day breaks, Q arrives at school to discover that Margo, always an enigma, has now become a mystery. But Q soon learns that there are clues–and they’re for him. Urged down a disconnected path, the closer he gets, the less Q sees of the girl he thought he knew.
*I absolutely love John Green as an author, and the plot interested me, so why not give it a shot?*

If I Stay by Gayle Forman
The story follows 17-year-old Mia as she deals with the aftermath of a catastrophic car accident involving her family. In a coma, Mia has an out-of-body experience, and watches as friends and family gather at the hospital where she is being treated. Mia watches as her memories flash before her eyes as she comes to realize that she must decide if she is to wake up and lead a life far more difficult than she ever anticipated, or to slip away and die. It has received widely positive reviews. A sequel hit shelves in April 2011, entitled Where She Went.
*the movie is coming out soon!!! eep!*
