Fab Friday: Interview with Tenneil Allmark

Hello Loves,

I need to find a standard photo to use for these interviews, but until then we shall remain photoless. I apologize if it bothers anyone. But photos aside, today I bring another interview! I've had the opportunity to speak with the lovely Tenneil over the past few weeks. She runs the blog Like Neon Love which has been on of my favorites ever since I originally started blogging back in January. (though this blog has only been around since April)

Anyways, I'm getting off topic, so let's just jump to the interview.

1. What made you want to start your blog/youtube?
I started my first blog back in 2009, which was more arty and music related. It didn’t last long, but when I discovered the world of beauty YouTubers through a LiveJournal friend, I got back into blogging in 2011 and have kept it at ever since. When I saw others blogging about beauty, I thought, ‘Hey, I could do this’, and it’s such a fun, creative outlet for me.
2. What’s the meaning behind your blog name?
At the beginning of the year, I changed my blog name to Like Neon Love, which is taken from my favourite band, Cut Copy, and their album, Bright Like Neon Love. I wanted the whole ‘Bright Like Neon Love’ to be my blog name, but it was taken across all social media platforms and it was a bit too long, anyway. I really love my blog name now.
3. What advice do you have for new bloggers/youtubers?
This is so cliché, but the best thing you can do in all areas of your life, not just in blogging and YouTube, is to simply be yourself. Being like everyone else won’t set you apart from the rest and probably won’t make the blogging experience enjoyable. People can tell whether you’re genuine or not and if you love what you do, people will see that too. I like to think that’s why people read my blog and why I have such lovely blogger friends.
4. How would you describe your style?
I think my style is a mixture between 90s and minimal, but a tinsy bit girly.
5. What are 3 essentials in your wardrobe?
Chelsea boots, denim jacket and black and white basic tees. These three things go with any outfit!
6. Thrifting or buying new?
I’ve tried thrifting or as it’s called in Australia, op shopping, before and I like the idea of it, but I don’t think it’s really me. I don’t have the patience to find those hidden gems - it’s much easier to go shopping when they’re right in front of me! I prefer to buy things new. What I can say, I’m a sucker for those big chain companies.
7. Do you follow trends? If so, what have been your favorites?
I follow trends if I like them and I think they fit in with my style. I’ve been loving this whole 90s revival thing with chunky shoes, “mom” jeans and crop tops.
8. Who are your fashion inspirations?
I take inspiration from everywhere. I think I’m heavily influenced by the music I listen to, the films I watch and just random stuff I see on the Internet. My favourite fashion YouTubers to watch are sunbeamsjess, SianShutterbug and Sarah Hawkinson. If I had to pick a celebrity, it would be Alexa Chung, but I don’t really follow what celebrities wear.
9. How has your style changed since you’ve started blogging?
I think my style is bit more refined now and I generally have a better sense of how I want to dress. I think before blogging, I had an idea of what I wanted my style to be, but could never execute it the way I wanted to present myself.
10. What’s your best fashion advice?
This is a tricky one as I don’t really consider myself a very fashion forward person! I would say trendy or not, wear what you want and don’t bother what anyone else thinks. There are heaps of trends I can’t stand, but no one’s opinion should stop you from wearing what you love. Dress for yourself and feel proud in what you wear. Something as simple as putting an awesome outfit together can be a huge confidence boost and that’s the best thing we can take from fashion.
